Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate changes in blood pH, lactate, and bicarbonate levels in athletes under physical loads of varying intensity. A total of 163 healthy male participants aged 19–25 years were enrolled and divided into a control group, weightlifters, football players, and Muay Thai athletes. In athletes, parameters were assessed before training and after physical exercise, whereas in the control group measurements were performed only at rest. The obtained data were analyzed using statistical and correlation methods. The results demonstrated that more than 65% of athletes developed signs of metabolic acidosis after physical exercise. The most pronounced changes were observed in weightlifters, followed by Muay Thai athletes. A significant strong negative correlation was identified between the decrease in pH and the increase in lactate levels, while a strong positive correlation was observed between pH reduction and bicarbonate depletion (p<0.05).
