Abstract

This article investigates the formation of leaf surface area in different cotton varieties and lines and its relationship with photosynthetic potential. During the flowering–boll formation stage, the number of leaves and total leaf area were determined, and a morphometric analysis was carried out across varieties. The results revealed significant differences among varieties in terms of leaf number and total leaf surface area. The highest leaf area was recorded in Bukhara-102 (1779 cm²) and Istiqlol-14 (1717 cm²), indicating a well-developed photosynthetic apparatus in these varieties. In some varieties, despite having a higher number of leaves, the total leaf area was relatively lower, which can be explained by differences in leaf blade size.
